PetSafe Dog Training Collar Review

!±8± PetSafe Dog Training Collar Review

As one of the largest retailers of PetSafe dog training collars within the UK we are writing to review the new PetSafe Venture Training collars.

In many respects the new Venture dog training collars are a large step forward aesthetically from the more conventional black boxy training collars like the old PetSafe 400 remote trainers. If you look at what most manufacturers have produced in the past it has been a black square receiver collar with a black strap and working a black remote handset.

The new PetSafe Venture receiver collars are aesthetically pleasing in a blue translucent casing that is nicely curved to compliment the dogs neck, they certainly look much more comfortable for the dogs to wear. This new exciting lifestyle appearance of the PetSafe Venture training collars has really set them apart and this factor alone has brought much interest from prospective customers. One point to note is that some people who have been a little wary of what others will think when their dog is wearing a static collar have been pleased to purchase a collar that doesn't really look like a static training collar.

Venture training collars come in two different models the Venture 350 for small dogs up to a weight of 18kg that operate up to a 350 meter range, and the Venture 900 for medium to large dogs for pet dogs over 18kg that works on a distance up to 900 meters. Whilst the technology is the same in both the collars the level of static pulse is understandably lower in the smaller 350 Venture. Both of these Venture collars are able to operate 1 or 2 dogs from the same remote so all you need to do is buy a second receiver collar to turn these into a two dog training system.

Whether you decide to buy a new PetSafe Venture training collar or not we advise that you always set this on the lowest setting and just gradually increase this until you find the right level for your dog. Please bear in mind that all you are trying to do is set this at a level where you interrupt your dogs trail of thought. This is important as these collars need to be used sensitively and in a controlled manner, this way they can be extremely effective as a training aid.

PetSafe Venture trainers are fully waterproof so streams, rivers and lakes are a definite yes for dogs that just love to get wet, with no harmful affects on the collars. They also are mains rechargeable so just charge overnight and you are ready to go.

One very important feature that these Venture collars have is a large red button on the handset, this is a booster button that ramps the level of static by three levels and is ideal in emergencies. If for example you see your dog running towards a busy road you can use this feature to save the dogs life.

So how reliable are these PetSafe Venture collars? We have been selling these now for over six months and they appear to have been very reliable, we have had very few after-sales issues and generally the majority have been very pleased with their performance. Dogs seem to find them very comfortable to wear and their owners have found them effective.

How to Stop Your Dog Nuisance Barking by Using a Dog Spray Collar

!±8± How to Stop Your Dog Nuisance Barking by Using a Dog Spray Collar

"Nuisance" barking of pet dogs can really be annoying-and embarrassing to the neighbors. Fortunately, there is a solution to this problem: a dog spray collar. This device is the ideal tool for training your dog not to bark unnecessarily; it is not only safe but also humane.

As you probably have experienced already (I know I have), it is ineffective to try stopping your dog from barking inappropriately. It was very uncomfortable and I felt helpless apologizing to my neighbors while my dog continued to bark.

How the Dog Spray Collar works

A dog's barking triggers the dog spray collar to release a harmless scented substance, called Citronella, which the majority of dogs don't like. This method of training dogs uses four out of the five senses dogs possess. The dogs can see, smell, feel and hear the spray.

Whenever a dog wearing the collar barks, the spray released produces an annoying hissing sound. Since the spray is released to the neck and face, it serves as a distraction which stops the dog from barking. When the dog hears this noise, smells the Citronella, sees the spray, feels the mist, it quickly learns that these things mean "stop barking".

Dog Spray Collar types

Dog owners can choose from two main types of dog collar spray. First of the two types is the automatic one, which most owners prefer. It is made by Innotek, Multivet and PetSafe. This collar type has a microphone and vibration sensors, which can detect a dog's bark. The sensors are battery-powered and are usually attached to the collar. It is therefore necessary to regularly check the battery and to replace it when needed. When triggered, the sensors facilitate the release of the Citronella spray to the neck and face of the dog. Over time, the dog becomes trained to refrain from barking, in anticipation of the spray. In trying to avoid the spray, not barking gradually becomes a habit.

If you're just starting to use the spray, you will notice that you may have to adjust it. The collar has controls for this. What's good about this type of collar is that the owner does not have to always be around to stop his/her pet from barking.

The other type of dog collar spray is remote-controlled. It is usually the preference of professional dog trainers. It is also be used to train a dog in other areas, aside from preventing nuisance barking. This type of collar has a button-triggered handheld activation control device which the dog owner or trainer carries. The control device has range of approximately 100 meters. The benefit of using this type of collar is that it is activated only when the barking is inappropriate; there is, naturally, no need to suppress all of a dog's barking. The remote-controlled collar is a little more expensive than the automatic one. It is made by Premier, Multivet and PetSafe. Dog owners recommend these collars because no pain or shock is involved.

How to Determine Which Training Collar You Need For Your Dog

!±8± How to Determine Which Training Collar You Need For Your Dog

If you're shopping for a remote training collar, determine first how are you going to use it. If you're a hunter, then you'll a way to control the behavior of your dogs during your hunts. Those who live in a farm may want to control their working dogs' behavior. Or you might just be taking your dog out on your backyard, where it can't get too far away from you. These scenarios are the usual ones, and these fits specific types of training collars. The usual guide when buying remote training collars is range - the distance you need to "keep your dogs on a leash."

The rule of thumb is to determine how far you'll let your dog roam away from you, and multiply that by two when looking for the right remote training collars. Your dog's training collar should fit that range. The goal here is to be able to stay within effective transmission range, at all times. Your dog might run off somewhere too far inconvenient for you to get to. You need to be able to call them back in that event.

There are three transmission ranges used to categorize remote collars. Short range means a range less than 500 meters. Medium range covers 500-1000 meters. Long range involves 1000 meters and greater.

The three main considerations, which include, the range of transmission, are the size of your dog and how many dog you have. The size is easy enough, as there are only three size ranges - small, medium, and large. Deciding on the range is easy - around 100 meters covers just about any normal backyard. Upwards of that means bringing your dog out on the park, or on the farm, or into the woods. Some models of training collars can handle more than 2 dogs, up to 6.

Other features you should know about

Some collars' transmitters can tell how far away your dog is from you, via a display on the transmitter. Some transmitters can also tell how long the battery life is on each unit, assuming you use multiple collars on your dogs. When out in the field, both are important indicators. A rugged, waterproof design gains importance for handling hunting and working dogs. Lastly, some collars can work with tone only or vibration (or both) - the stimulus with which to control the dogs' behavior. The vibration becomes crucial when the dog gets into a noisy area where he might ignore the tone.
